In a surprising turn of events, a woman who disregarded her husband's advice has become a multi-millionaire overnight.
Nicola Dickinson, hailing from Wiltshire, humorously remarked that her recent win of a £4.5 million home serves as evidence that she should not have listened to her spouse. Her husband, Martyn Dickinson, had previously urged her to cease participating in a prize draw for luxurious residences, claiming she would "never win in a million years."
Now, the couple is reveling in their good fortune after winning a stunning property situated in the picturesque Lake District, complete with its own lake, a scenic woodland jetty, a sauna, a hot tub, and even a gym.
At 59 years old, Nicola shared, "For four years, I’ve been entering the competition. Martyn kept complaining that I should give it up, but I enjoyed participating—even if I didn’t win, my entry supported fantastic charities. Winning has proven exactly why I never heed his advice, and I’m so glad I didn’t—we're now multi-millionaires!"
The newly acquired home comes with no mortgage, and all stamp duty and legal fees are taken care of. The couple has the option to move into the house, rent it out, or sell it, and they also received a cash prize of £250,000 alongside their win.
When she received the call about her victory, Nicola admitted she had a hard time believing it was real. "We celebrated over the weekend with plenty of bubbles. Dry January was completely off the table," she joked.
Having lived in the same house in Swindon for the past three decades, the couple has raised three children and now enjoys the company of three grandchildren. Nicola expressed her thoughts on how this windfall will transform their lives: "We’ve dedicated our lives to working hard, not just for our benefit but for our family’s as well. This win truly alters everything for us. We're excited to provide more support to our children and grandchildren, helping them achieve the best start possible in life. It feels like we’re creating a lasting legacy for our family."
Nicola secured her new home by participating in the Omaze Million Pound House Draw competition. This initiative, run by the non-profit organization Omaze in partnership with the RSPCA, also pledged a substantial donation of £1 million towards the charity's rehabilitation projects.
