Sky TV Down: Thousands of UK Viewers Report Outages
Sky TV is currently experiencing widespread outages across the UK, with thousands of viewers reporting issues. The problem began around 3 am and intensified around 7 am on Saturday, affecting areas including Manchester, Glasgow, Birmingham, Liverpool, Bristol, Leeds, London, Southampton, and Derby. According to Downdetector, over 8,000 people were reporting issues with the network just before 7 am.
Customers have criticized Sky for its lack of communication, with many expressing frustration over the lack of updates. One user tweeted, "Seems to be a problem nationally with Sky TV, no satellite signal for many. But zero update, unacceptable service." Another added, "@skytv. Not-so-Good Morning, Sky! Any chance you could do us the courtesy of letting us know what's going on? No one can access live TV. It's clearly been going on for hours already, yet no fix, update, or apology."
The issues appear to be primarily with Sky TV, but streaming services are also affected. The online platform indicates that 8% of viewers have experienced a total blackout.
This outage follows a similar incident last May when tens of thousands of Sky TV customers reported being unable to watch TV. The problem was attributed to a technical issue causing some Sky Q boxes to enter a standby state, which was quickly resolved, and service was restored.
The Independent has reached out to Sky for comment, but no response has been received yet.
