Can an entire generation forget the iconic Beatles and the legendary John Lennon? Sean Ono Lennon, the son of these musical icons, fears so. In a recent interview, he shared his concerns and efforts to ensure their legacy lives on.
"The world is the custodian of their legacy," Sean told CBS Sunday Morning. "I'm dedicated to making sure Gen Z remembers The Beatles and my parents' impact."
But here's where it gets controversial... Sean believes it's possible for their music to fade away. "I never thought so before," he admitted. "My parents gave me so much, and preserving their legacy is the least I can do."
Sean sees his parents' legacy as a message of peace and love, but with a twist. "It's an attitude towards activism, done with humor and love," he explained.
One of his recent projects, the Oscar-winning animated short 'WAR IS OVER!', co-written with former Pixar animator Dave Mullins, aims to capture this essence. "I wanted people to hear 'Happy Xmas (War Is Over)' in a new light, to pay attention and not just tune it out," Sean shared.
And this is the part most people miss... Sean also provided an update on his mother, Yoko Ono. At 92, she's retired, and Sean feels the pressure to continue her work. "She set a high standard for how to handle my dad's music and The Beatles' legacy," he said.
"My mom was always unique, and my dad hoped she'd be his writing partner. It's funny to think that the only person who'd turn down John Lennon as a partner is my mom!"
Sean also spoke about the upcoming documentary 'One to One: John & Yoko', featuring never-before-seen recordings and home videos. "It's like spending more time with my dad. It means a lot to me personally," he added.
So, will Gen Z forget the Beatles? Sean Ono Lennon is determined to make sure they don't.
