Ikea's Green Initiative: Embracing Electric Trucks for a Sustainable Future (2026)

IKEA's bold move towards a greener future is making waves in Italy's logistics industry. The furniture giant is partnering with LC3 Trasporti to revolutionize road freight transport, aiming for CO2-free operations. But here's where it gets controversial: they're doing it with electric trucks, specifically the eActros 600.

LC3 Trasporti is no stranger to this model. In 2025, they became the first in Italy to adopt the eActros 600 for heavy-duty, long-haul operations, initially for Lidl. Now, they're expanding their fleet for IKEA, with over ten eActros 600 trucks set to join their ranks by 2026.

These electric trucks are already hard at work, transporting containers to and from ports and delivering goods across northern Italy. IKEA's Global Transport Manager, Ewelina Taylor, emphasizes the project's ambition: "This is about significantly reducing our climate impact in Italy."

The benefits are twofold: environmental and operational. The eActros 600 trucks will cover over 1.2 million kilometers annually without CO₂ emissions, a significant step towards decarbonization. Additionally, their quiet operation makes them ideal for residential deliveries, especially at night.

Michele Ambrogi, Commercial Director of LC3 Trasporti, sees this project as a turning point: "The energy transition is a challenge we embrace with determination." Maurizio Pompei, CEO of Daimler Truck Italia, agrees, stating that the eActros 600 is a result of years of development, "radically transforming road freight transport."

With a range of up to 500 kilometers thanks to its 621 kWh LFP battery, the eActros 600 is a game-changer. It's a concrete, zero-impact solution, proving that collaboration across the supply chain can drive real change.

And this is the part most people miss: it's not just about the technology. It's about the commitment and vision of companies like IKEA and LC3 Trasporti, who are leading the way towards a sustainable future.

So, what do you think? Is this a step in the right direction for the logistics industry? Or are there challenges and considerations we haven't addressed? Let's discuss in the comments!
