Bold headline-worthy update: Universal Studios Florida is turning the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit construction walls into a collage of retro-future posters featuring Blues Brothers, Back to the Future, and Mr. Tape—with hints that a major replacement ride is on the way.
What happened
A recent wave of themed posters and signs has appeared on the construction barriers surrounding the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit site. The coaster itself closed permanently in August, and the wall extensions now push right up to nearby buildings, blocking access to the firehouse facade that once figured as part of the ride’s layout. Historically, that firehouse served as the entrance to the Ghostbusters Spooktacular show before Rip Ride Rockit replaced it.
New imagery and references
Close to the firehouse, a sign commemorating the “Restoration of the Historic Engine 89 Firehouse” has been visible since the walls went up in June. This fueled early fan speculation about a Ghostbusters-inspired redesign for the replacement experience. Soon after, additional references appeared to Fast & Furious and Back to the Future, suggesting multiple themed concepts might be in play.
Key posters in the mix include:
- A Back to the Future–themed reference, dovetailing with a “Battle of the Bands” audition motif that echoes Marty McFly and The Pinheads’ scene from the franchise.
- A Blues Brothers promotion showing Jake and Elwood performing on a Delancy Street backdrop, near Finnegan’s Bar & Grill—in reality, Universal Studios Florida hosts Blues Brothers performances nearby, though the street is named Delancey. One variant also misspells saxophone as “saxaphone.” In some versions, the duo dons Santa hats for a holiday twist.
- A poster featuring a VCR technician mascot named Mr. Tape, a nod to Universal’s 2024 Summer Tribute Store and later appearances in the 2025 Christmas Tribute Store.

The reference to a “30 Rock” facade sits near Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon, which adds another layer of mystery: is this a genuine hint about the Rockit replacement, or just playful misdirection?
What’s known and what remains speculation
Universal has publicly referred to a new experience or attraction coming to the park, without naming it. Current evidence points toward a roller-coaster project, possibly from Intamin, though concrete details are scarce. Permits have indicated plans for a two-story building on-site, which further fuels questions about the scope and format of the replacement.
