Get ready for an exciting debut as Emery Jones Jr. steps onto the field for the Baltimore Ravens!
The Ravens' Rookie Offensive Lineman Takes Center Stage
Emery Jones Jr., a promising rookie offensive lineman, is set to make his highly anticipated debut for the Ravens this Sunday against the New York Jets. But here's the twist: he's taking the place of veteran backup guard Ben Cleveland, who is surprisingly not in the lineup for the first time this season.
In addition to Cleveland, the Ravens have a few other notable players who won't be suiting up for Sunday's game at M&T Bank Stadium. The inactive list includes:
- WR Rashad Bateman (ankle)
- RB Rasheen Ali
- CB Keyon Martin (ribs)
- OT Carson Vinson
- DT Aeneas Peebles
- QB Cooper Rush (third QB)
It's a tough break for Bateman, who will miss his second consecutive game due to an ankle injury.
To fill the gaps, the Ravens have called up rookie inside linebacker Chandler Martin and veteran Amani Oruwariye from the practice squad. They'll be crucial in compensating for the absences of rookie inside linebacker Jay Higgins IV and Keyon Martin.
Now, here's where it gets interesting. Jones had shoulder surgery after the Combine, but the Ravens were so impressed by his physical prowess as a blocker from LSU that they drafted him in the third round. Despite missing the entire offseason for rehab, Jones returned to practice on October 1st and has been making rapid progress, according to Head Coach John Harbaugh.
Jones himself has been focused on the guard position with the Ravens, and he attributes his biggest improvements to the mental aspect of the game.
"I feel like I've made some big improvements. I'm just trying to stay focused on my role and help this team succeed. The mental part is crucial; it's what sets the elite players apart. Being able to react quickly, hit hard, and get to your assignment swiftly is a game-changer."
On the other side of the field, the Jets have their own debutant in defensive lineman Khalen Saunders Sr., a run-stopping force they acquired this week after his release from the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Additionally, Jets pass rusher Will McDonald IV (quadriceps) and defensive tackle Harrison Phillips (foot), who were both questionable for the game, will be taking the field.
So, as we gear up for this thrilling matchup, who do you think will make the biggest impact? Will Jones' mental prowess shine through in his debut? And how will the Jets' new additions fare? Let's discuss in the comments and share our predictions!
